Overview
This unit of study aims to develop your ability to use software tools to solve engineering problems, and prepare computer models of parts, assemblies and documentation for manufacturing, and use Finite Elements Element analysis in design.

Learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
- Create 3-dimensional computer models of parts and assemblies (S1)
- Generate engineering drawings according to engineering standards (K5)
- Deploy mathematical models using standard software e.g. Excel, Matlab (K2, S2)
- Apply computer aided tools to simple engineering problems (K4, K6, S2, A3, A6, A7)
- Communicate solutions to engineering problems through written/graphical reports (K5, A2, A6, A7)

- Introduction to CAD, the screen, menus, toolbars, commands, drawing elements, editing, filing, printing
- Creation of 3D parametric models of parts using solid modelling
- Assembly of parts with constraints
- Mechanism modelling and kinematic modelling
- Introduction to surface modelling
- Preparation of engineering drawings to AS1100 standards
- Computer Application to engineering problem solving
- Use generic computer software for solving engineering problems: Microsoft Excel
- Use specialised computer software for solving engineering problems: Engineering Equation Solver Matlab, Solidworks, Eon reality and Simulation
