Near-field Optics of Photonic Crystal Microcavities

In this talk I will discuss the effect that a photonic crystals microcavity can have on the optical near-field. In particular, I will show that a photonic crystal microcavity can imprint its signature on the near-field landscape, which can be observed using a near-field optical microscope. I will also discuss the ability of photonic crystals to enhance, not only the electromagnetic, but also the mechanical coupling between light and matter.
