Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET): from Experiments to Modern Theories
Professor Barry R. Masters
Biological Engineering Division, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA.
Thursday, 19th July 2007, 3.30PM, EN101, Ground floor, Engineering Building, Hawthorn.
The widespread use of commercial hardware and software for FRET studies can result in spurious outputs of images that purport to show the
efficiency of FRET. Unless the investigator is thoroughly versed in the theory of FRET and is aware of all of the assumptions made in the
various theories the data may contain confounding results that make its interpretation difficult.
This presentation will survey in historical order the development of resonance energy theories and provide an analysis of the key studies
that attempt to experimentally validate the theories of FRET.
