CMOS Compatible All-Optical Photonic Integrated Circuits
Professor David J. Moss
School of Physics, University of Sydney, Australia
11:30 am Friday, 1 March 2013, EN103 Lecture Theatre (EN Building), Hawthorn.
All optical signal processing has attracted a lot of interest in the past 10 years, particularly in the context of all optical photonic integrated circuits that offer the promise of high speed, low power, low cost and small footprint devices. The question is - are they ever going to have an impact on society or are they destined to end up an academic curiosity? I’ll discuss the current state of this field, highlighting my own research over the last few years that has focused on achieving practical, useful platforms for ultrahigh bandwidth devices for telecom, computing and other areas.
