Overview
Spend the winter break enjoying summer in South Korea - this trip will give you the opportunity to work on a range of design and research projects while immersing yourself in Korean culture.
The trip will be run through the SPIKE program at Ulsan National Institute of Technology (UNIST). SPIKE@UNIST is an intensive 8-week summer program featuring a 4-week design internship and 4 weeks of language training and cultural study. You will also have the opportunity to travel around Korea and take part in various weekend trips. SPIKE is a global program so while taking part you will meet students from all over the world.

Highlights/tentative itinerary
Four weeks of internship gaining hands-on work experience as a designer and researcher
Four weeks of learning Korean language and about Korean culture
Field trips to local festivals and sights during weekends
Industrial visits to places like Hyundai Motors factory (world's largest single plant automotive factory)
Stay in a Korean temple
Program cost includes:
- Accommodation

- Insurance (eligibility criteria applies)

- Academic unit fee
- International airfares
- Passport and visa costs
- Personal expenses

The following types of fee help and funding are available to help eligible students with the costs towards this program:
A limited number of New Colombo Plan Mobility Grants of up to A$3,000 each
OS HELP Loan of up to A$8,295 (as at 2020)
Eligibility/selection criteria
This study tour is aimed at students studying 3rd and 4th year Industrial Design and Product Design Engineering. Selection criteria will be based on a portfolio of your design work and GPA.
