Biography
Dr Joanna McIntyre is a Senior Lecturer in Media Studies. Her research involves a cutting-edge combination of media studies, celebrity studies, trans studies, and queer theory. She is the editor of Gender and Australian Celebrity Culture (with Anthea Taylor, Routledge 2021) and The Routledge Guide to Gender and Celebrity (Routledge, forthcoming), and the author of Transgender Celebrity (Routledge, forthcoming). Dr McIntyre is also Chief Investigator on the large-scale industry-funded project, Australian Children's Television Cultures, funded by the Australian Children's Television Foundation. This four year project aims to better understand the multi-faceted cultural impacts of Australian children's television in the era of streaming video services and significant policy change. Dr McIntyre has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, and presented her research at over 30 national and international conferences.
