Biography

During her academic career Keryn has undertaken a number of leadership and governance roles at the University, Faculty/School and Department level. She has led a large academic department, been part of the senior management team leading a large and complex business school and held university level responsibilities such as Vice President Academic Board and membership of an Audit and Risk Committee.

Keryn's expertise is in the Financial Accounting and Financial Reporting area, specifically in relation to Accounting Standards, Accounting Policy and Disclosure Choices of management and the economic consequences of regulation. Her publications include papers in quality internationally refereed journals, two research books, professional oriented articles, and one of the leading Australian accounting textbooks. Keryn's research focuses mostly upon the impact of accounting regulation on firms financing and investment decisions, and upon the financing and investment implications of alternative contractual and reporting arrangements. She has been a chief investigator on successful Australian Research Council (ARC) and other research-related funding.

In 2022, Keryn was appointed President of the Australian Business Deans Council, the peak body of Australia’s university business schools. Internationally, Keryn is President of the International Association for Accounting Education and Research (IAAER). Through her role on the International Accounting Education Standards Board (IAESB), representing the IAAER, she contributes to the development and implementation of accounting education standards to contribute to the competence of the global accountancy profession. She was a member of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) Effect Analysis Consultative Group. 

Keryn is a Fellow of CPA Australia, Senior Fellow of FinSIA and member of the Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand. She has served on a number of Advisory Boards and provided expert opinion on accounting matters. She addresses international and national forums concerning accounting and education issues. A former Divisional member of CPA Australia, Keryn has also been Australian President of the Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand.
