Biography
I have a PhD in media and communications from the University of Sydney, where I examined the situated nature of games in cities. I have an ongoing interest in the relationship between location-based technology and urban environments, as well as the discursive and technical shifts within location-based games and mixed reality industries and the commodification of place and play. My current research explores global mobile gaming distributions and cultures of mobile game play. My research has been published in top tier journals, including Games and Culture, Convergence, and Media International Australia.
I teach in the areas of social media networks and communities, media industries, and communicating with data. I have extensive experience teaching across Australia and internationally. I am available to co-supervise PhD and Master by Research students in the areas of mobile, location-based and augmented reality technology and digital and gaming cultures, especially using ethnographic approaches.
