Dr Peter Renshaw

Biography

Peter was an aircraft accident investigator with the Australian Transport Safety Bureau and its predecessor the Bureau of Air Safety Investigation. He has also worked with independent safety investigation agencies in the Asia-Pacific region on major aircraft accident investigations involving large transport category jet aircraft. He has conducted aviation safety investigations in both Australia and abroad for over 17 years. Peter has also worked in senior safety management roles for various international airlines including Cathay Pacific Airways and Viva Macau Airlines. He holds a BA and BSc from the Australian National University, a Diploma of Transport Safety Investigation from the ATSB, Graduate Diplomas in Applied Psychology and Languages from the University of Canberra, a Master of Human Factors with Distinction from Western Sydney University, and a PhD from Macquarie University. He holds pilot licences on fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft with various ratings and endorsements, including a helicopter flight instructor rating. He also holds a remote pilot licence for multi-rotor drones.

Peter’s research interests include technical skill acquisition and the development of expertise, conventional and remote pilot performance, training and assessment, remotely piloted/unmanned aircraft systems, advanced air mobility technologies and applications, and aircraft accident investigation methodologies.
