BIO

Sascha leads the Dysprosium Quantum Gas Laboratory at Swinburne, currently under construction, where our research explores experiments with ultracold dysprosium atoms exhibiting long-range dipolar interactions. These interactions give rise to quantum gases with anisotropic magnetic properties, enabling the study of new states of matter and exotic quantum phenomena, including unconventional superfluidity and novel materials. We also implement an optical lattice to create periodic potential landscapes that facilitate controlled quantum simulations. In addition, a high-resolution optical microscope will be integrated into our experimental apparatus to probe local properties. Our research spans many-body physics, tests of fundamental theories, and precision measurements while we actively explore potential applications in quantum technologies such as sensing and navigation.

Sascha currently teaches Energy and Motion (PHY10001), Mathematical Methods and Statistics for Engineering (MTH20017), and Quantum, Atomic and Optical Physics (PHY30004). He is available to supervise PhD, MSc, Honours, and undergraduate students. Please get in touch with him if you are interested in opportunities within the Dysprosium Quantum Gas Laboratory team.
