Aims and objectives
Advanced CAD/CAM involves the use of various computer aided design and computer aided manufacturing technologies to design and manufacture engineering products with increased productivity, accuracy and reduced lead time. This unit aims to provide students with an understanding of advanced technologies and tools, which play a significant role in design and manufacturing of engineering components

As the minimum requirements of assessment to pass a unit and meet all Unit Learning Outcomes to a minimum standard, a student must achieve:
(i) an aggregate mark of 50% or more, and
(ii) at least 40% in the final exam
Students who do not successfully achieve hurdle requirement (ii) will receive a maximum of 45% as the total mark for the unit.

- 3D Curves and surface representations. Lattice structures. Process Planning
- Computer numerical control (CNC) systems and computer aided manufacturing (CAM) software systems
- Modern developments in CNC – post-processing & complex surface machining
- Additive manufacturing, 3D printing technologies – systems, materials and applications
- Hands on exercises using an advanced CAD/CAM system
