General Information
Overview
Build on your undergraduate studies and undertake industry placement with a Master of Professional Engineering. If you’re an engineer who wants to diversity your career, this course will help you expand upon your current specialisation with contemporary coursework. You’ll further develop your professional management and communication skills, as well as research methods and principles.
Study structure
To qualify for the award of Master of Professional Engineering students must complete 200 credit points as follows.
- 4 specialisation units 50 credit points
- 9 core units (137.5 credit points)
- 1 elective unit (chosen from any other specialisation) (12.5 credit points)
Students are also required to undertake the Career Success Program (CSP).
Full-time study: 100 credit points/eight standard units of study per year
One credit point is equivalent to one hour of study per week per semester (including contact hours and private study)

Learning outcomes
At the completion of the Master of Professional Engineering course, graduates will be able to:
apply broad knowledge and skills in Engineering professional practice and have high-level advanced knowledge and skills in an Engineering specialisation
plan and execute a team-based research project in a relevant Engineering topic by applying appropriate research principles, sound methods and technical research skills
reflect on managing practical issues and complex problems, and describe contemporary and sustainable trends and best practices in engineering
investigate, analyse and synthesise information relating to complex problems, concepts and theories of professional engineering practice, and to provide solutions to these problems using critical thinking and judgement
clearly articulate complex knowledge and justify propositions and professional decisions to specialist and non-specialist audiences
exemplify a strong sense of autonomy, accountability, and credibility, while upholding ethical standards and showing a deep commitment to Indigenous responsiveness and responsibility in all personal work outputs
Career opportunities
The course is aimed at engineers who seek to diversify their career and to build on their current engineering specialisation with contemporary studies. Graduates will be able to lead and apply advanced technical and management skills to the design, procurement and maintenance of engineering projects. The course will also provide a pathway for graduating students to undertake PhD research in one of the specialist areas of engineering.

Maximum academic credit
The maximum level of credit that can be granted for the Master of Professional Engineering is 100 credit points (normally eight units).
