Study structure

Successful completion of the Bachelor of Business Analytics and Analysis requires students to complete units of study to the value of 300 credit points. All units of study are valued at 12.5 credit points unless otherwise stated.

  • Full-time study: 100 credit points/eight standard units of study per year

  • Part-time study: 50 credit points/four standard units of study per year

  • One credit point is equivalent to one hour of study per week per semester (including contact hours and private study)

Outcomes and course rules

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this Course students will be able to:

  • define and integrate theoretical principles applicable to Business, Technology, Analysis and analytics and apply those principles to inform and improve practice in a range of industry contexts

  • systematically review and critically evaluate research from a variety of sources in order to make informed judgements on options for innovatively solving a range of Business, Technology, Analysis and Analytics problems that arise in business contexts

  • apply critical thinking, reflection and judgment in the selection and application of the appropriate IS/IT related theories, frameworks and/or methods as part of the process to identify and propose solutions to organisational problems

  • demonstrate an appreciation and understanding of the professional and ethical issues, dilemmas, and cultural sensitivities pertaining Business, Technology, Analysis and Analytics professional in a range of environments

  • communicate and articulate clear, coherent and independent exposition of knowledge and innovative ideas appropriate for the problem context, the stakeholders, and the organisational environment

  • build on and continuously develop the intellectual independence to be critical and reflective learners, cognisant of new technologies and practices and their implications to business and social environments

  • work in a self-reliant, independent and responsible manner, show leadership and take initiative where appropriate, particularly in a collaborative and team environment

Career opportunities

Graduates are likely to pursue careers in business and systems analysis, business process analysis, business requirements analysis, project management, enterprise systems consultancy, IS/IT consultancy, business relationship management, business development management, and when you have gained experience, as an IT director and chief information officer.

Course rules

To qualify for the Bachelor of Business Analytics and Analysis students must complete 300 credit points comprising of:

  • eight (8) core units of study (100 credit points)

  • eight (8) units of study from the course discipline major (100 credit points)

  • secondary studies (100 credit points) comprising of a co-major, minor/s, advanced minor and/or electives*

*Students cannot enrol in both course discipline majors.

Domestic students also have an opportunity to undertake a WIL Professional Placement. Please note that due to government regulation international students holding a student visa are not able to undertake Professional Placements in this course.

Students may not complete more than 125 credit points (normally 10 units) at Introductory Level. A unit of study can only be counted once, where units are shared between majors and/or minors, students must choose an approved alternate.

International students who successfully gain a placement through the selection process will be required to change courses to a relevant Professional degree if this be feasible, in order to complete a placement and should consider any visa and extended study duration implications prior to applying. Professional Placements are subject to a competitive selection process.

Professional placements

Students who undertake a 12-month professional placement are subject to the following course rules and must complete 375 credit points comprising:

  • eight [8] Core units of Study (100 credit points);

  • eight [8] units of study from the from the course discipline major (100 credit points);

  • four [4] Professional Placement units (100 credit points); and

  • six [6] units of study comprising an Advanced Minor, Minor or electives (75 credit points)

Students who elect to undertake a 6 month professional placement are subject to the following course rules and must complete 337.5 credit points comprising:

  • eight [8] Core units of Study (100 credit points);

  • eight [8] units of study from the course discipline discipline major (100 credit points); Two [2] Professional Placement units (50 credit points); and

  • seven [7] units of study comprising an Advanced Minor, Minor or electives (87.5 credit points).

Professional recognition

The Bachelor of Business Analytics and Analysis is accredited by Australian Computer Society (ACS) at the professional level and by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International. The alumni of AACSB accredited business schools are among the world’s most influential leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs impacting business, government, and non-profit sectors. Only the top six per cent of business schools worldwide are AACSB accredited.

Maximum Academic Credit

The maximum level of credit that can be granted for the Bachelor of Business Analytics and Analysis is 150 credit points (normally 12 units)
