Qualifications

One of the following:

  • successful completion of the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or its equivalent, such as an interstate or international Year 12 qualification.
  • completion or partial completion of an approved tertiary qualification (including Certificates IV (completed), diplomas, advanced diplomas, associate degrees and degrees).

Applications that meet the pre-requisite requirements will be considered based on applicant portfolio.

Applicants are required to provide examples of their projects that showcase their creative capacity including both development work and finished work.

  • VCE Units 3 and 4: a minimum study score of 20 in any English (except EAL) or 25 in English as Alternate Language (EAL) or equivalent

1. Portfolio

Portfolio requirements

Your portfolio should present a range of development work and finished pieces (at least 5 creative works) that demonstrate your ideas and experimentation as well as your approach from concept to a finished creative solution (up to 10 pages). 

Your portfolio should be submitted as a PDF and be no larger than 10MB.

Selection of work

Include a diverse range of your best creative work that demonstrates your skills and versatility.

It may include but is not limited to: 

  • Fashion and textiles: fashion design, textile design, fashion illustration, sewing, pattern making, etc.
  • Spatial design and 3D: architecture, interior design, product design, theatre set design etc.
  • Media: photography, video, film, animation, social media, etc.
  • Art: drawing, illustration, painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, etc.
  • Graphic design: branding, advertising, packaging, publication, interface design, etc.
     

Your portfolio may also include: 

  • Finished creative work: The portfolio should Include at least 5 finished works; you may wish to include a detail or several angles of the one work on a page.
  • Process documentation: Sketches, drafts, mood boards, and/or any other documentation that shows your design process and how your ideas evolved from concept to completion.
  • Creative work description: For each creative work, please provide a short (50 word) descriptive statement that explains your design intention or process. Please include a title of the creative work and a date.
     

2. Written response (up to 250 words)

Describe which aspects of design you are most passionate about and how this drives your interest in a design career. To support your answer, please include any educational, extracurricular activities, or work experiences that may contribute to your success in this design course.

Any portfolios or written responses not submitted via Slideroom will not be assessed.

HECS-HELP is a loan and discount scheme available to you if you are eligible and enrolled in a Commonwealth supported place. A HECS-HELP loan can cover all or part of your contribution amount. You can also choose to pay your fees up front.

Eligibility for HECS-HELP

You are eligible for a HECS-HELP loan if you have been offered a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) for an undergraduate degree at Swinburne or a UniLink course, and you:

  • are an Australian citizen and doing at least one unit of your course in Australia; or
  • hold a permanent humanitarian visa and will be living in Australia for the duration of your course; or
  • hold a New Zealand Special Category visa and meet the special eligibility requirements for New Zealand citizens.
