Synchrotron Science Workshops

Advances in scientific understanding rely on developments in technology and society’s needs. Students can take part in experiments using specialised equipment to illustrate concepts in physics of interaction of light and energy, nuclear physics, radioactivity and dark matter.

The program also includes a tour of the Australian Synchrotron where particpants will learn what makes the facility so unique - a rare chance to see this world class facility. (2.5hrs)

Years 9 - 10  (Topic taught at Year 9/10 curriculum level)

How do particle accelerators work? Curious about the Synchrotron research being conducted locally?

These questions and more will be answered in the hands-on physics lab session where students can take part in experiments using specialised equipment to learn about the behaviour of electrons in electric and magnetic fields.

The program includes a tour of the Australian Synchrotron where participants discover the important research outcomes that have been achieved over the years. (4.5 hrs)

Years 10 - 12 (Topic taught at Year 11 curriculum level)
