Campus Heart
Your next gen learning and social engine at our Hawthorn campus
Update on Campus Heart
Design work on the Campus Heart project, which was earmarked to revitalise the Atrium between the BA and library buildings, has continued.
As the design process for Campus Heart progressed, like on many major infrastructure projects, additional issues arose. If the project went ahead in its current form, it would create flow on effects for the BA and Library buildings.
While we could go ahead with the current plan for Campus Heart and make some of these upgrades to the BA building, it would be a wasted opportunity to not take a more holistic approach to future proof our campus.
As a result, we have made the decision to pause Campus Heart in its current form, and rescope the project, consider the future of BA, the Atrium and the Library as one single precinct, rather than continue to plan for these as individual buildings.
This approach gives us more opportunities to rethink the entire BA, Atrium and Library precinct, ensuring we deliver cutting-edge, next_gen, world-leading teaching and research facilities for our students.
Swinburne University of Technology’s new Campus Heart development will be the learning and social engine at our Hawthorn campus.
The centrepiece of our next gen_campus revitalisation, multi-storey development will become a student-focused hub between the Library and BA buildings.
Swinburne has engaged leading architect and design firm Architectus to co-create with students to bring the new Campus Heart to life.

Our learning and social engine
Campus Heart will feature co-working and digital hybrid workspaces for students to study solo or in groups, as well as informal meeting spaces and covered outdoor areas to connect and interact with each other.
Event spaces will provide capacity to host Swinburne's extensive calendar of engagement and advancement events on campus.
The new development will replace the Atrium and current Latelab, with the new Latelab and student hub to be delivered by early 2025.
