Overview
Study as an exchange student at one of our partner universities, School of Management Fribourg, under their intensive four-week Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Global Purpose program.
You will not only unleash your entrepreneurial spirit but also open your eyes to the most picturesque views in the entire world. Built upon the chasm of the Sarina River, Fribourg is a handsome medieval city offering a multitude of architectural sights and enchanting cultures. With a bustling population of students, this lively town filled with rows of little boutiques, student cafes and restaurants combined with the gorgeous views and energetic nightlife is sure to leave quite an impression.
With all classes taught in English by experienced lecturers and entrepreneurs from all around the world, you will have the opportunity to build your global network and challenge yourself in an international environment using the different management approaches in Europe. While you immerse yourself within the innovation and creativity of the Swiss environment, you will gain credit towards your degree, as well as the opportunity to take field trips to various Swiss companies in possibly Zurich, Geneva, Basel and more.
By the end of this intensive program, you will be able to write the script of your own business as well as gain followers and convince the community with the leadership capabilities you've learnt.
Courses offered
Students may choose to study one or two modules (courses). It's recommended to choose to study both modules.
Module 1: Discovering entrepreneurship & innovation
Participants will experience a hands-on approach to entrepreneurship and founding a startup. Learn how to develop your business model, the different approaches in funding, branding and leadership.
Module 2: How to lead with purpose & global impact
Participants will learn how purpose-driven leadership could transform their ventures as well as how big a role sustainability and leadership play.
Eligibility criteria
To apply for this program, students must:
- be enrolled into an Undergraduate or Postgraduate Business degree
- meet the overseas exchange program eligibility requirements
- meet any pre-requisites listed by the host institution and for the courses you choose
Academic credit
Depending on the modules (courses) you choose to study, you will earn 7.5 or 15 ECTS.
You are able to take this program as credit for one or two of your elective units, depending on the courses selected. Alternatively, you may be able to use core units for this program, subject to approval from your Course Director.
Credit equivalence
7.5 ECTS = 12.5 CP (1 unit) at Swinburne
15 ECTS = 25 CP (2 units) at Swinburne
Costs
Program cost: CHF 1,500 (approx. A$2,600)
This program cost is paid to the host institution and includes the following:
- accommodation
- transport to the company visits
- study material
- cultural activities
The host university will provide further information upon application.
Note: Tuition fees to the host university are waived for students completing a short-term exchange program at one of our partner universities. You will continue to pay your regular tuition fees to Swinburne while you are on the program.
There may be other program costs incurred outside of tuition fees, including living expenses, airfares, and visas (if applicable). Program costs are accurate as of the latest website update and may be subject to change.

Funding
Funding your overseas journey may be easier than you think
Swinburne Abroad Travel Grants
This program may have Swinburne Abroad Travel Grants available (TBC early 2025). This grant can help offset travel and living expenses for your overseas internship and are available to both Domestic and International UG or PG students. Students can apply for a grant as part of the application process.
OS-HELP Loan
Eligible Australian students can also apply for an Australian Government OS-HELP Loan of up to A$9,893 as at 2025 (depending on your program destination) to help cover costs associated with your overseas program. For more information on funding and eligibility see Fee Help and Scholarships.
Application
Students must first apply to Swinburne Abroad following the short-term exchange application process. Applications will be assessed on a rolling basis.
