Overview

The Nursing Immersion Program is a comprehensive 14-day itinerary designed for nursing students or professionals seeking an immersive experience in healthcare, community engagement, and cultural understanding within Fiji.

This program is crafted to offer a unique blend of academic insights, hands-on clinical experiences, and cultural immersion specific to the nursing discipline. The program offers a holistic and immersive experience specifically designed to enrich the nursing education and practice through a combination of academic insights, clinical exposure, and cultural immersion.

Participants can anticipate a deeper appreciation of culturally sensitive nursing care, enhanced clinical skills through exposure to varied healthcare environments, and an understanding of community health challenges and initiatives in Fiji. This program aims to cultivate well-rounded, culturally competent nursing professionals equipped to navigate diverse healthcare landscapes.

This program constitutes up to 80 hours of placement experience.

Can this unit be taken as an elective by students in any Swinburne degree? 

No.

Eligibility

To qualify for the program in June, you must:

  • be enrolled into an Undergraduate Nursing degree (3rd year students only)
  • have successfully completed all second-year units (enrolment in NUR30006 is required).
     

To qualify for the program in September, you must:

  • be enrolled into an Undergraduate Nursing degree (2nd year students only)
  • have successfully completed all first-year units (enrolment in NUR20006 is required).

Funding

Funding your overseas journey may be easier than you think

New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant

This program has $2,500 - $3,000 New Colombo Plan Mobility Grants available for eligible students. 

These grants provide financial support to help alleviate the expenses associated with your overseas program. Australian undergraduate students that meet all eligiblity criteria may apply. Students can apply for a grant as part of the application process.

OS-HELP Loan

Eligible Australian students can also apply for an Australian Government OS-HELP Loan of up to A$9,504 (depending on your program location) to help cover costs associated with your overseas program.
