Asia-Pacific Association for International Education visits Swinburne

Swinburne has welcomed the Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) to the Hawthorn campus to showcase the university’s facilities and research strengths.
The visit created a valuable opportunity for Swinburne to strengthen existing ties and find new opportunities to collaborate with other globally-engaged universities.
“We are so proud to have had the honour to sponsor the 2016 Asia-Pacific Association for International Education conference,” Swinburne Vice-Chancellor, Professor Linda Kristjanson said in her welcome address.
“Today we welcomed visitors from 18 different countries, many of which we are long term partners with. Others we are meeting for the first time, and we welcome the opportunity to commence a conversation about possible partnerships.”

As part of the visit, international education professionals from around the world were taken on a campus tour. The tour included:
- Swinburne Virtual Reality Theatre, to view and Astro Tour including high-resolution 3D images of space, captured by the world’s most powerful telescopes.
- Design Factory Melbourne, part of the Design Factory Global Network – an international initiative offering innovative education, research and partnerships across the world.
- Lego Serious Play activity to show how Lego can help students think innovatively and develop strategic planning, communication, and creative thinking skills for the future.
- Factory of the Future, a 100-million-dollar complex, which features a superior suite of advanced manufacturing equipment.
APAIE is an international not-for-profit organisation. Its goal is to encourage internationalisation of higher education in the Asia-Pacific region and around the world. It also aims to address the professional challenges faced by individuals in international education.
The visit to Swinburne’s Hawthorn campus was part of the 11th APAIE Annual Conference and Exhibition, held in Melbourne from 29 February to 3 March, 2016. The event was hosted by nine Victorian based universities, led by The University of Melbourne.
The visit also included an Aussie BBQ breakfast.
