Swinburne hosts Australian Government fellowship awardees

Swinburne is hosting two Taiwanese scholars who have been awarded the Australian Government’s prestigious Endeavour Executive Fellowships.

The Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships are the Australian Government’s competitive, merit-based awards, which build on Australia’s reputation for excellence in education and research.

Working closely with TAFE Directors Australia (TDA), Swinburne welcomed the scholars with a series of high-level meetings and presentations to explore innovative joint programs including student and staff mobility.

TDA is working with the Taiwan Ministry of Labour’s Workforce Development Authority to renew and deepen its competency-based training qualifications in partnership with industry.

The scholars, Assistant Professor Chien-Che Huang and Professor Tung-Hsiao Chen, hail from one of the major public universities in Taiwan, National Taichung University of Science and Technology.

They are exploring ways to integrate skills-based training and competency into their degrees through the development of a Common Skill Competency Platform (CSCP) program. 

The CSCP will provide learners with foundational skills required for concomitant career and study progression to meet future multifunctional work skills.

With Swinburne’s strong history in quality vocational education and its collaborative educational framework across both vocational and higher education, the scholars are learning and building new skills and integrating that knowledge into the development of their own programs.

It is hoped that this visit may lead to multifaceted collaboration between Australia and Taiwan, and greater student mobility between our two countries.
