Swinburne awards scholarship to Way to Olympia Peak winner

Phan Dang Nhat Minh has been crowned as Vietnam’s smartest high school student after winning this year’s Way to Olympia Peak television show.
Minh will receive a full scholarship to study an undergraduate degree at Swinburne and a cash prize of US $35,000.
Way to Olympia Peak is Vietnam’s most-watched television show, with more than 20 million people tuning in to the live broadcast in Vietnam.
Over a period of twelve months, Vietnam’s top students competed with their peers in the fields of English, mathematics, history, science and Vietnamese literature.
The 2017 edition of the show was broadcast live in Vietnam on Sunday 27 August 2017.
Swinburne has been sponsoring the competition since its inception, providing opportunities and financial assistance for the winners.
Minh is a student at Hai Lang High School in Quang Tri province.
“Our 17-year partnership with VTV has allowed some of Vietnam’s brightest students to study at Swinburne University of Technology, creating opportunities for them to develop their knowledge and skills at a world-class Australian university,” Pro Vice-Chancellor (International), Professor Monica Kennedy said.
“We have welcomed 20 Way to Olympia Peak champions and runners-up over the years, many of whom have continued on to postgraduate study, including PhD.
“These students do very well at Swinburne. They are highly motivated and hard-working and in terms of grades, they are among the top students in their courses. We are proud to continue to support this scholarship program and continue to welcome these talented students to Swinburne.”
The runner up this year is Pham Huy Hoang, from Hanoi Amsterdam High School for the Gifted.
