Swinburne ranks top 420 in Times Higher Education World University Rankings

Swinburne has ranked in the top 420 universities world-wide by Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

The rankings place Swinburne in the top three per cent of universities globally.

The rankings use 13 performance indicators designed to capture a range of university activities including research, interaction with business, international outlook and the teaching environment.

Swinburne ranked among the best in the world in the International Outlook category, which measured the proportion of international staff and students as well as international research collaborations. 

Swinburne has achieved notable improvements across a number of rankings over the past year.

This year, Swinburne ranked 61 in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for universities under 50 years old as well as 60 in the inaugural Times Higher Education Asia-Pacific University Rankings.

For the third year running, Swinburne has ranked in the top 60 in the QS rankings for the world’s top universities under the age of 50.

Most recently, Swinburne placed in the top 350 of the world’s best universities according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities, jumping almost 100 places in a year.

Swinburne’s world-leading and internationally recognised research is reflected in recent initiatives which include:

• A new nano-material which mimics the antibacterial properties of insect wings
• Regeneration of damaged or missing tissue through biological 3D printing techniques
• Discovery of a massive inactive galaxy from a time when the Universe was only 1.65 billion years old

As the university celebrates its twenty-fifth year of university education in 2017, these rankings demonstrate Swinburne’s commitment to being a globally recognised, world-class institution.
