Swinburne University of Technology has ranked 98 in the world for Research Quality in the 2025 Times Higher Education World University Rankings. This marks the first time Swinburne has entered the top 100, a significant milestone.

Swinburne is known for its innovative approach to research, tackling real-world challenges across diverse sectors. From advanced manufacturing and aerospace to health innovation and sustainability, Swinburne researchers are making a tangible difference.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings assessed 2,092 universities from across 133 countries, with 38 from Australia. The Research Quality category assesses universities against four areas; citation impact; research excellence; research strength and research influence.

“At Swinburne, our mission is to produce research that has both academic and practical value. Our focus is on creating solutions that benefit society, and this ranking highlights the incredible work of our researchers across the university,” said Professor Karen Hapgood, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research.

"Our success goes beyond rankings, reflecting our commitment to meaningful research, education, and community impact. While we are extremely proud to rank among the top 100 universities globally for research quality, our true success is defined by the real-world impact we create every day."

Swinburne’s growing international reputation is a testament to the university’s focus on producing impactful, high-quality research that benefits communities, industries, and the broader economy.
