Swinburne has again been ranked by students as one of Victoria's leading institutions for Entire Educational Experience and Quality of Teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the recent Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching survey.

The Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT) survey program, which includes the Student Experience Survey (SES), was released in November 2024 and assesses 142 higher education providers against a range of criteria including skills development, peer engagement, quality of teaching, student support and learning resources.

Swinburne’s commitment to delivering a world-class student experience and real graduate outcomes is recognised across the results, with strong outcomes in Student Support and Services across a number of study areas. Swinburne was ranked in the top three universities nationally for Student Support and Services in both Teacher Education and Creative Arts study areas, and number one in Victoria for Nursing.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education, Experience and Employability Professor Laura-Anne Bull said the results show Swinburne’s commitment to providing a world-class student experience and ensuring graduates are real-world ready.

“Swinburne is proud to offer our students a unique and personalised university experience that supports their individual needs and sets them up for success during their studies and beyond,” Professor Bull said.

We are constantly striving to deliver the best university experience possible, which is why we have partnered with our students to co-create a reimagined Swinburne experience – from enrolment to graduation and beyond, through the development of our Student Experience Framework.

It’s fantastic to see students recognising Swinburne’s ongoing commitment to student experience and employability as reflected across this year’s results.”

Swinburne's online and on-campus Teacher Education courses continue to lead the way, ranking number one for the fourth year in a row for Quality of Teaching (undergraduate). This year, both Swinburne’s undergraduate and postgraduate Teacher Education courses are rated number one in Victoria for Quality of Teaching and for Student Support and Services, confirming our commitment to creating Australia’s teachers of the future, including in regional and rural areas.

In the area of health, Swinburne’s Nursing degree continues from strength to strength and is positioned at number four in Australia for Entire Education Experience. Allied health courses in Dietetics, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy are also well regarded, with students appreciating the opportunity to work closely with their peers, evidenced by Swinburne’s position as the top university in Victoria for Peer Engagement in Health Services and Support for postgraduate courses.

Swinburne continues its leading reputation in Communications and Creative Arts, producing graduates with practical, job-ready skills, ranking joint number one in Australia for Skills Development in our postgraduate Creative Arts courses and number one in Victoria for Skills Development in postgraduate Communications courses.

The SES is the only comprehensive survey of current higher education students in Australia. It focuses on aspects of the student experience that are measurable, linked with learning and development outcomes, and potentially able to be influenced by higher education institutions. Information collected in the SES helps higher education institutions and the government improve teaching and learning outcomes for students.
