Overview

This unit provides an opportunity to develop a practical understanding of the use of the “Skilled Helper” problem-solving and management model to assist clients in working towards their desired outcomes. Students will also develop an understanding of the change process, the role of the therapeutic relationship, and the importance of self-awareness.

Learning outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

  • Formulate responses to client issues based on an understanding of basic counselling interventions
  • Evaluate the strengths and limitations of the “Skilled Helper” problem-solving and management model in order to effectively apply it to issues presented in counselling practice
  • Analyse the linkage between counselling interventions and client outcomes
