Learning outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

  • Calculate transmission line parameters given the configuration of a transmission line (K3, S1, S2)
  • Perform a wide-variety of per-unit conversions (K3, S1, S2)
  • Describe and evaluate a variety of transformer and generator models using appropriate model and mathematical notation (K2, K3, S1, S2)
  • Perform power-flow problem in detail (K2, K3, S1, S2, S3)
  • Perform flow and contingency analysis and differentiate among PV, PQ, reference/ swing/ slack buses in power flow analysis (K3, S1, S2)
  • Describe the fundamental compositions and structures of renewable power systems (K3, S1)

Hurdle

As the minimum requirements of assessment to pass a unit and meet all ULOs to a minimum standard, an undergraduate student must have achieved:

(i) an aggregate mark of 50% or more, and(ii) at least 40% in the final exam, and(iii) complete all lab work.Students who do not successfully achieve hurdle requirements (ii) and (iii) will receive a maximum of 45% as the total mark for the unit.
