Learning outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

  • Describe, formulate and employ advanced quality management practices, procedures, standard and systems in construction projects
  • Determine, develop, and apply relevant workplace health and safety management practices, and systems in construction site operations
  • Prepare, administer, review and recommend integrated plans and procedures for workplace health and safety as well as quality management in construction projects
  • Interpret, develop and use suitable communication and documentation for managing safety and quality in a range of site operations of construction and infrastructure management projects

Content

This unit has three components as below:

Component 1: Quality Management in Construction Site Operations

  • Codes, standards, and compliance requirements for quality management in construction projects
  • Quality management systems for construction and infrastructure management
  • Total quality management, six-sigma, statistical/ analytical tools and techniques for quality performance and continuous improvement benchmarks
  • Prevention and reduction of defects. rework and wastages in construction
  • Reinforcing attitudes, behaviours, and quality culture in site operations for construction and infrastructure management

Component 2: Safety Management in Construction Site Operations

  • Codes, standards, and regulations for safety in construction industry practices
  • Safety management systems in construction projects
  • Occupational Health and Safety assessment and audit for construction site operations
  • Reinforcing attitudes, behaviours and safety culture in site operations for construction and infrastructure management

Component 3: Integrated Quality and Safety Management in Construction Site Operations

  • Fundamentals of integrated safety and quality management
  • Communication and documentation for safety and quality management in construction projects
  • Special case-studies and best practices
  • Examples of BIM and digital technology applications
