Indigenous RISE Scholarship (PG)

This scholarship supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students enrolled in a Postgraduate course at Swinburne University to realise their potential and engage in their studies with success.

This scholarship payment aims to help students to purchase initial resources such as; IT equipment, course-specific equipment including tools, textbooks, journals, stationery or public transport passes, to ensure students have everything they need to reach their full potential.


Courses eligible

Any Postgraduate degree offered by Swinburne University of Technology.


Eligibility / selection criteria

To be eligible for the Indigenous RISE Scholarship (PG), applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Meet the following criteria:
    • Australian citizen
    • Confirm you are of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage by submitting a Confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Heritage certificate (COA) with your scholarship application or a certified Statutory Declaration declaring that the individual applying for the scholarship is of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, and/or is accepted as such by the community in which you live, or formerly lived.
  2. Meet the following enrolment criteria:

    • be a Postgraduate Swinburne student in 2024
    • enrolled full-time or part-time in an eligible course (see courses eligible in section above)
    • studying on campus
  3. A written statement (max. 500 words) or short video (no more than 2 minutes) addressing the following points:
    • How the indigenous RISE Scholarship (PG) will benefit your studies with Swinburne and what it means to receive this scholarship. 
    • How will you utilise your Postgraduate degree in the future.
       
    • Please upload your video to cloud based storage and provide a link in an MS Word or PDF document. The video must be downloadable by anyone - provide any passwords if necessary.
  4. Provide written referee outlining your suitability for the scholarship
    • Character reference - from a person competent to supply a character reference such as a current or past employer, community leader, sporting or extra curriculator activity coach, a person competent to supply a character reference. 

Value

This scholarship is valued at $3,000 for one year only, paid bi-annually. 

To receive second payment, students must successfully complete first semester with a 50% average mark across all enrolled units.

Please note - It is the student’s responsibility to notify Centrelink or any other government body of any changes to personal income that might affect government payments received.
