Indigenous Financial Assistance Grant
The Moondani Toombadool Centre has established the Indigenous Financial Assistance Grant to support any current Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Swinburne students experiencing financial hardship, or who have been impacted by an unexpected emergency.
Courses eligible
Available to all current Indigenous and Torres Straight Islanders students from all Swinburne courses who have completed at least one (1) semester of study at Swinburne University.
Eligibility / selection criteria
If you have been impacted by hardship or an emergency and as such can demonstrate financial need, you may be eligible to access this financial grant.
To be eligible, you must:
- Australian citizen
- Confirm you are of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage by submitting a Confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Heritage certificate (COA) with your scholarship application or a certified Statutory Declaration declaring that the individual applying for the scholarship is of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, and/or is accepted as such by the community in which you live, or formerly lived.
- Be enrolled in study units in the current semester; and
- Completed at least one (1) semester of study at Swinburne University.
- Provide a personal statement demonstrating the impact of the hardship or emergency on your studies. The statement should be limited to 500 words and address the following:
- Type of hardship/emergency;
- Impact on your studies;
- Anticipated duration of impact;
- Current living situation and financial circumstance (rent/utilities/bills payable);
- Employment status;
- Details of any government benefits you may receive, such as Youth Allowance, ABSTUDY, Austudy, Job Seeker.
- Students must include:
- Supporting documents including, but not limited to: medical certificates, insurance claims, photographs, supporting statements from educators or employers.

Value
A limited number of individual grants valued at $1000 (one-time payment) are available.

How to apply
The Indigenous Financial Assistance Grant enables Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander students that have been impacted by hardships or emergencies to access financial support through a one-off grant.
If you are experiencing hardship, applicants should complete an online application form and submit supporting documentation (as detailed under the Eligibility/Selection criteria section above).
