Moondani Toombadool Centre HDR Scholarship for Indigenous Candidates

The Moondani Toombadool Centre HDR Scholarship is open to all current Indigenous Higher Degree by Research (HDR) candidates studying at Swinburne University. Applicants must be in their second year (or further) of their degree and successfully completed Mid-Candidature Review. 

These scholarships aim to:

1) assist with travel to a national or international conference or symposium relevant to their field of study to present their work or

2) assist with transcription or editorial services in the preparation of their final dissertation or final written, oral or visual presentation piece.

Any Higher Degree by Research (HDR) offered by Swinburne University of Technology.


Eligibility / selection criteria

To be eligible for the Moondani Toombadool Centre HDR Scholarships for Indigenous Candidates, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Meet the following criteria:
    • Australian citizen
    • Confirm you are of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage by submitting a Confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Heritage certificate (COA) with your scholarship application or a certified Statutory Declaration declaring that the individual applying for the scholarship is of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, and/or is accepted as such by the community in which you live, or formerly lived.
  2. Meet the following enrolment criteria:

    • be a continuing 2nd year (or further) HDR Swinburne candidate in 2024
    • enrolled full-time or part-time in an eligible course (see courses eligible in section above)
    • studying on campus
  3. Provide evidence/supporting documentation of successful completion of Mid-Candidature Review of HDR Degree. 
     
  4. A written statement (max. 500 words) or short video** (no more than 2 minutes) addressing the following points:
    • For transcription or editorial aid: indicative budget/cost; expected date of submission of your final dissertation and/or your final written, oral or visual presentation piece.
    • For conference/symposium attendance: indicative budget; proposed title of presentation; name of conference; location of conference; dates of conference. Brief statement on how attendance and presentation at conference is important for success within your field of HDR study. 
    • Provide examples of Leadership qualities within the Community and/or University life.

Value

These scholarship are valued at $2,500 (one off payment). 

There are 8 scholarship available.

Please note - It is the student’s responsibility to notify Centrelink or any other government body of any changes to personal income that might affect government payments received.
