David Johnson Freemasons Foundation Scholarship 2025

Thanks to the generous support of Swinburne alumnus and engineer, David Johnson, this scholarship has been established through Freemasons Foundation Victoria

The scholarship provides financial support to a student commencing an undergraduate degree in the School of Engineering who is from a disadvantaged background or is required to relocate.

The scholarship is valued at $8,000 per year for up to four years.


Courses eligible

Any Undergraduate degree in the School of Engineering offered by Swinburne University of Technology.


Eligibility / selection criteria

To be eligible for the David Johnson Freemasons Foundation Scholarship, applicants must:

    1. Meet the following criteria:
      • Australian citizen or Australian Permanent Resident
    2. Meet the following enrolment criteria:
      • be a commencing first year Swinburne student in Semester 1, 2025
      • enrolled full-time in an eligible course and major (see courses eligible in section above)
      • enrolled on campus (Hawthorn)
    3. Submit a personal statement (500 words) or short video (2 minutes) addressing the following:
      • interest in pursuing a career in engineering
      • educational disadvantage
      • how the scholarship will benefit your studies and support you

        **If you are submitting a video, please upload your video to cloud based storage and provide the link in a MS Word or PDF document. The video must be accessible by anyone - provide any passwords if necessary.
    4. Provide evidence of financial and/or personal disadvantage, or the need to relocate in order to study. Disadvantage(s) may include: 
      • financial difficulty or low-socio economic status (Centrelink statement, payslips)
      • disability or medical condition
      • delay or interruption to career or studies because of family responsibilities or illness
      • relocation from a rural or regional area in order to undertake tertiary study
      • English as a second language
      • identification as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
      • first in family to attend university 

    Value

    The scholarship is valued at $8,000 per year for a maximum of four years, paid bi-annually after census date.

    One scholarship will be awarded in 2025.

    Applicants should complete an online application form and submit with all supporting documentation by 16 March 2025.
