Study and Living Support Grants

The Study and Living Support grant aids students experiencing financial difficulties and struggling to meet basic living costs.

Value:  $2,000, paid in two instalments in April/May and September. 

Available to students studying any course at an undergraduate, associate degree or UniLink level. 

To be eligible you must meet all the following criteria:

• a local student  (Australian citizen/permanent resident/permanent humanitarian visa holder/New Zealand citizen)
• enrolled in an undergraduate degree , associate degree course or UniLink course at Swinburne;
• enrolled full time or part time, and actively studying in 2025;
• demonstrate that you are from a low socio-economic background (e.g. you or your parents are in receipt of Centrelink payments) or regional/remote background, or Indigenous Australian.

If you are a Swinburne Online or Open Universities Australia student, you can apply if you are on a Commonwealth Supported Place and meet the above criteria. 

If you were awarded an  Access Scholarship in 2025 you are ineligible to apply for this grant.

 We will receive more applications than grants available so there is no guarantee that you will be successful. Please ensure that you provide all the information so that your application can be fully assessed.

Multiple grants are available.

Applicants must complete and submit an online application form and all supporting documentation by 11.59 pm Friday, 28 March 2025. Please have all your supporting documents with you before you start filling in the application form. If you attach a document that is too large, you will get a message on your application form and the application won't be able to be submitted. In that situation, attach a word document listing what document/s you can't attach.  Applicants will be notified the outcome by 17 April 2025 via their student email account.

Supporting documentation including:

• A copy of the most recent Centrelink Statement (it is a 2 to 3 page document) outlining your  Centrelink payments  (screenshots are not sufficient – this link outlines instructions on how to download your Centrelink Statement https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/individuals/online-help/centrelink/request-document-using-your-centrelink-online-account);
• If you have a disability or medical condition or mental illness, a copy of letter from a relevant health professional outlining your condition if you are not registered with Accessibility Services
• If you live in a household with a partner or parents/guardians a copy of their Centrelink Statement if  they receive Centrelink Benefits (see dot point 1 about how to download your Centrelink statement), or their payslips for the last two months if they don't receive Centrelink Benefits.
• IF NOT IN RECEIPT OF CENTRELINK:
  • A copy of your pay slips for the last two months, to verify your income;

Please note: If you do not provide the correct supporting documentation in the format as outlined above your application will not be considered. We will not be following up students for missing or incorrect documents.
