Overview
The aim of this unit is to understand the type, interpretation, use, and communication of aviation data. Students will examine how the aviation industry utilises data to inform commercial, safety and operational decisions. Students will be introduced to typical tools that are used in the aviation industry to solve novice level problems

Learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
- Interpret the diverse forms of data which may be encountered in the aviation environment
- Discriminate between various software tools and methodologies and select those most applicable for working with specific forms of aviation data
- Employ appropriate mathematical approaches, software tools or other methodologies to manipulate and analyse data in order to generate understanding and solve essential aviation industry problems
- Work confidently with data across diverse technological platforms
- Interface between common technologies used within the aviation industry
- Communicate the output of an analytical process in a manner which effectively informs aviation stakeholders

- Aviation Statistics - Basic descriptive data summary and visualisation
- Introduction to inferential statistics
- Introduction to aviation data analytics and visualisation using Power BI
- Applications in aviation operations, safety, and commercial activities
- Different sources of aviation data and information – airlines, airports, GDS and IATA
- Database platforms – OAG, BITRE, US FAA, other sources - Extracting and storing data from online sources - Sorting, querying, manipulating, transforming and aggregating data
- Data Analysis using Excel, SPSS
