Overview

To introduce the student to flight planning, air law & procedures, navigation theory, meteorology, aircraft general knowledge, aerodynamics and human performance and limitations, at the Private Pilot level so that they may apply that knowledge to the management of aviation operations.

Learning outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

  • Explain the environmental, legal, engineering, and human factors that impact on flying operations at the Private Pilot level
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the principals involved in the safe and accurate, planning operations at the Private Pilot level
  • Apply the principles of flight planning and performance in managerial or operational roles to maximise operational benefit to an airline

Hurdle

As the minimum requirements of assessment to pass a unit and meet all ULOs to a minimum standard, an undergraduate student must have achieved:

(i) an aggregate mark of 50% or more, and(ii) at least 40% in the final exam.Students who do not successfully achieve hurdle requirement (ii) will receive a maximum of 45% as the total mark for the unit.

This unit of study provides the student with an introduction to the following areas of aviation knowledge so that as managers they have an understanding of the level of knowledge required of a Private Pilot whose licence was issued by the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA).
