This unit of study aims to provide you with an introduction to and application of surveying theory and fieldwork techniques, including data analysis.

Learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
- Use an automatic level (K1, K3, S1)
- Use a Total Station to undertake a traverse (K1, K3, S1)
- Quantify a distance to an accuracy of 1:6000 or better (K1, K2, K3)
- Quantify an angle/Bearing to an accuracy of 10” of arc or better (K1, K2, K3)
- Quantify and analyse digital data and map it using GIS software (K1, K2, K3)
- Generate high quality documentation and plans as part of a team (A2, A7)

Hurdle
As the minimum requirements of assessment to pass a unit and meet all ULOs to a minimum standard, an undergraduate student must have achieved:
(i) an aggregate mark of 50% or more, and(ii) at least 40% in the final exam.Students who do not successfully achieve hurdle requirement (ii) will receive a maximum of 45% as the total mark for the unit.
