Overview

This unit introduces students to the principles and practice of public health and health promotion in an Australian and global context. Students will learn the core concepts and theories underpinning health promotion and disease prevention. Students will develop an understanding of the prevention continuum and the broad scope for evidence-based, health promotion action.

  • Examine key health promotion strategies (including policy, community, and individual-level interventions)
  • Compare health promotion or disease prevention strategies used to address determinants of health and equity, based on evidence and ethical principles
  • Investigate current and emerging health and wellbeing issues relating to a specified population group
  • Critically evaluate health promotion and disease prevention interventions
