Overview

This unit teaches students about journalistic-style audio and video story-telling for media and non-media organisations, using established and new technologies and media platforms. Students will gain in-field story-telling experience and learn how to deliver multi-media content using the latest technologies to online audiences. This unit also provides students with live studio production and presentation experience in preparation for working in the media industry.

Learning outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

  • Critically analyse and evaluate the key debates on representation in global media practice and strategies for decolonisation in journalism
  • Identify concepts of convergence, produsage and interactivity in multiplatform storytelling
  • Demonstrate inclusive news gathering practices through use of diverse sources, verification and ethical editing practices
  • Interrogate and extend upon traditional visual storytelling methods to produce interactive storytelling elements
  • Apply industry-standard photographic and video production techniques to create stories for and about social media audiences
