General Information
Overview
The Bachelor of Aviation Management / Bachelor of Business program equips students with essential skills in both aviation operations and business management. This comprehensive degree focuses on developing professional competencies, enhancing safety and efficiency, and preparing students for leadership roles within the aviation industry.
Graduates will be ready to manage tasks in high-risk, high-consequence, and high-tempo environments, taking on frontline or strategic roles in airline or airport operations, or allied industries. The program also emphasizes the development of technical and professional skills needed to tackle complex problems, preparing students for current and future challenges in various industries.
Study structure
Successful completion of the Bachelor of Aviation Management / Bachelor of Business requires students to complete units of study to the value of 400 credit points. All units of study are valued at 12.5 credit points unless otherwise stated.
Full-time study: 100 credit points/eight standard units of study per year
Part-time study: 50 credit points/four standard units of study per year
One credit point is equivalent to one hour of study per week per semester (including contact hours and private study)

You'll get paid to work in an area related to your field of study for either 6 or 12 months, where you'll combine hands-on learning with academic submissions, workplace reflection and feedback from your host organisation. Most students undertake their placements in the third year of their degree, so you’ll want to map out your electives as soon as you can and register for a placement at least 6 months before your preferred start date.

On successful completion of this course students will be able to:

- As an aviation practitioner, demonstrate coherent understanding and application of the body of knowledge contained within the aviation industry including appropriate international and domestic regulations and organisations

Course rules
To qualify for the Bachelor of Aviation Management / Bachelor of Business, students must complete a total of 400 credit points, as follows:
- eight (8) Aviation Management core units (100 credit points) AND
- five [5] Business Fundamentals core units (62.5 credit points) AND
- three [3] Business Practice units (37.5 credit points) AND
- eight (8) units of study from the Aviation discipline major (100 credit points) AND
- seven to Eight (7 to 8) units of study from a Business discipline major (87.5 to 100 credit points)*
- one (1) Elective unit of study (12.5 credit points)**.
*Please note that the Accounting Major and the Finance Major has cross crediting. This makes the Finance Major 87.5 credit points and the Accounting Major 100 credit points.
**Only applicable if the Finance Major is chosen.
Students may not complete more than 150 credit points (normally 12 units) at Introductory Level. A unit of study can only be counted once, where units are shared between majors and/or minors, students must choose an approved alternate.
Students looking to achieve CASA professional pilot qualifications must be co-enrolled in the Graduate Certificate of Piloting in order to undertake the requisite flying practicum units (delivered by business partner CAE Melbourne Flight Training).
Domestic students also have an opportunity to undertake a WIL Professional Placement. Please note that due to government regulation international students holding a student visa are not able to undertake Professional Placements in this course.
Volume of learning
The Bachelor of Aviation Management / Bachelor of Business consists of 400 credit points. Units normally carry 12.5 credit points. In each academic year, eight (8) units normally constitute a full-time load of 100 credit points and four (4) units normally constitute a part-time load of 50 credit points.
The volume of learning of the Bachelor of Aviation Management / Bachelor of Business is typically 4 years. For students who complete a Professional Placement, the Bachelor of Aviation Management / Bachelor of Business consists of 450–500 credit points. Units normally carry 12.5 credit points with placement units carrying 25 credit points each. A standard annual full-time load comprises 100 credit points, and a standard part-time load comprises 50 credit points.
The volume of learning of the Bachelor of Aviation Management / Bachelor of Business with a 6-month placement is typically 4.5 years. The volume of learning of the Bachelor of Aviation Management / Bachelor of Business with a 12-month placement is typically 5 years.
Professional placements
Professional Placements are subject to a competitive selection process.
Students who undertake a 12-month professional placement are subject to the following course rules and must complete 500 credit points comprising of:
- eight (8) Aviation Management core units (100 credit points) AND
- five [5] Business Fundamentals core units (62.5 credit points) AND
- three [3] Business Practice units (37.5 credit points) AND
- eight (8) units of study from the Aviation discipline major (100 credit points) AND

- four [4] Professional Placement units (100 credit points).

Maximum academic credit
The maximum level of credit that can be granted for the Bachelor of Aviation Management / Bachelor of Business is 200 credit points (normally 16 units). 100 credit points maximum from each discipline.
Professional recognition
The Bachelor of Business (with an Accounting major or an Accounting and Finance major) is professionally accredited through CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ). Graduates are therefore eligible to apply for membership of these professional bodies and Institute of Public Accountants (IPA).Graduates are eligible to receive a number of exemptions from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and from The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).The Bachelor of Busines is also accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International. The alumni of AACSB accredited business schools are among the world’s most influential leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs impacting business, government, and non-profit sectors. Only the top six per cent of business schools worldwide are AACSB accredited.
The Bachelor of Business(with a Finance Major) is recognised under the CFA Institute Affiliated University and covers at least 70% of topics contained within the Level I CFA program Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK) topics including CFA Institute Codes of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct.
The Bachelor of Business (with a Financial Planning Major) is a FAS-approved course, making it a recognised pathway towards becoming a registered financial planner. Graduates will satisfy the education standards prescribed by FAS to be able to provide financial advice in Australia, subject to meeting other registration requirements prescribed by FAS (including completion of a Professional Year for Provisional Relevant Providers and passing a National Adviser Exam).
The Human Resource Management major (in the Bachelor of Business)is accredited by the Australian HR Institute (AHRI).Accreditation is reviewed every three years by the AHRI National Accreditation Committee. Students applying for this course can be assured that the quality of core units map onto the Australian HR Capability Framework for HR Practitioners and Academics, a recognised benchmark of HR best practice and standards.

A. Applicants with recent secondary education (within past three years)
ATAR
This course uses the ATAR as part of its selection considerations.
Guaranteed ATAR: if you receive an ATAR of 70 or higher and meet all the essential requirements for this course, you will be guaranteed an offer.
Educational history
An applicant's entire academic history, including ATAR results, will be considered for entry into this course.
Selection rank adjustments
Selection ranks for this course will be calculated based on your ATAR with adjustments to overall study scores based on subjects studied, location of your home address, SEAS application, and participation in Swinburne's Early Leaders program. Subject Adjustments
A study score of 25 in any Business, any Information Technology, Maths: Mathematical Methods, Maths: Specialist Mathematics, Global Politics or any Science equals 2 aggregate points per study. Overall maximum of 15 points.
Meeting course prerequisites
VCE units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in any English (except EAL) or at least 30 in English as Alternate Language (EAL) or equivalent.

B. Applicants with higher education study
Educational history
An applicant's entire academic history, including results from previous higher education study will be considered for entry into this course. If previous higher education qualifications are incomplete, results must have been obtained in the last seven years.

STAT/Bridging courses
Results from the STAT Multiple Choice will be considered for applicants without an ATAR and whose post-secondary studies do not meet the minimum requirements. Applicants who do not meet the English prerequisites can sit STAT Written English. STAT results are valid for two years.
C. Applicants with vocational education and training (VET) study
Educational history
An applicant's entire academic history from the past seven years, including complete and/or incomplete post-secondary VET studies, will be considered for entry into this course. Only graded results will be considered.

As for Year 12 or equivalent.
STAT/Bridging courses
Results from the STAT Multiple Choice will be considered for applicants without an ATAR and whose post-secondary studies do not meet the minimum requirements. Applicants who do not meet the English prerequisites can sit STAT Written English. STAT results are valid for two years.
