Learning outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

  • Describe the basic concepts of sustainability, sustainable development and sustainable construction (K1)
  • Recognise the international, national and local regulation developments in the area of sustainability (K4)
  • Appreciate the causes and effects of climate change (K1, K4)
  • Describe the effects of energy usage on greenhouse gas production and relevance of energy efficiency in buildings (K4, K6)
  • Demonstrate a functional knowledge of formulating and specifying practical measures for environmental sustainability that can be implemented in design and construction (K6)
  • Apply sustainability tools and indicators and appreciate their scopes and limitations (S1)

Hurdle

  • Sustainability issues: Climate change, Energy, Resources and materials, Indoor  Environment, Quality of building services, Outdoor Environment
  • Implementation: Policies, Design Issues, Tools and Indicators and reporting.
