Overview

The objectives of this unit are to develop knowledge of the fashion design process and the fundamentals of fashion communication. Fashion communication tools include illustration, montage, and mood boards and are used to present fashion ideas. Using illustration, visualisation, and digital tools, learners will develop their own signature style inspired by a variety of subjects, including modern art, design, fashion, film, and architecture to create fashion concepts.

Learning outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

  • Discuss fashion garments in relation to the human form through observational drawing and illustration
  • Implement drawing techniques to effectively communicate fashion concepts and problem solve ideas
  • Produce diverse fashion visualisations utilising mood boards, montage and illustration that reflect individual style and expression
  • Communicate and present fashion concepts effectively using industry standard technology and software
  • Conduct research on sources of inspiration including modern art, film, and architecture to develop novel fashion concepts
