Overview
Advanced manufacturing techniques and circularity in fashion are essential components to supporting a strong and sustainable fashion industry. This unit will identify the principles and practices of environmentally sustainable fashion design. It will cover research into socially responsible design, sustainable textiles, fast fashion and ethical manufacturing behaviours.
Students will apply sustainable design parameters to the application of creative fashion design outcomes.

Learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
- Understand the environmental and social impact of the fashion industry and the role of human consumption patterns and market demand
- Identify, evaluate and select materials, manufacturing and supply chain methods that meet a sustainable fashion industry
- Apply sustainable principles and practices to fashion design processes and outcomes
- Develop fashion designs using materials and manufacturing that minimise the environmental impact and promote social and ethical sustainability
- Produce design proposals that communicate the value of an environmentally sustainable fashion industry
