Overview

The fashion industry is diverse and spans the globe. In this unit, students will gain current understanding of both culture-specific fashion design as well as the historical trends in international fashion design. In addition, students will apply their developed knowledge of cultural, societal and environmental factors to the production of culturally-informed fashion concepts. This unit expands students’ understanding of the intricate workings of international fashion systems and strengthens their ability to apply fashion techniques in a global context.

Learning outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

  • Discuss the significance of global fashion design history and aesthetics
  • Apply fashion techniques within a global context, considering cultural, societal, and environmental factors
  • Create concepts that are inspired by global fashion
  • Evaluate the relationship between fashion design and advancements in society and culture
  • Apply sustainable and ethical principles and an understanding of First Nations knowledges and practices to fashion design processes
