Overview
This unit of study will introduce students to character design concepts, tools and techniques that underpin 3D character and object animation within linear and interactive environments. Students will identify and apply industry best-practice to inform project development, and apply this knowledge to outcomes appropriate for the film, visual effects, animation and computer game industries.

Learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
- Analyse the mechanics and components of an animation ready model, through the rigging and articulation of a three-dimensional character
- Apply principles of animation within a three-dimensional environment by producing resolved animation sequences
- Compose a character performance by finding, making and analysing character and action specific reference material
- Develop an animated sequence by using a structured approach to the creation of a character's performance
- Evaluate the progress of animation and screen elements through verbal and visual peer review
