Capstone: Industrial Design Major Project 1
Overview
This unit involves a detailed and professional level project that is executed to an industry standard and it will introduce students to core research skills that relate directly to design theory and practice. Students will be asked to respond to an emerging, current or future issue, and by immersing themselves in a specific problem, they need to return with an appropriate design brief and project plan. They will then undertake a conceptual exploration with the intent of developing a project outcome in response to their extensive research.

Learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
- Analyse and evaluate problems as part of the design process
- Use professionally recognised communication tools such as models, verbal delivery, renderings, drawings or virtual models, to articulate a project intent, content and a resolved proposition
- Produce a brief and project plan that outlines a strategy for solving a well-defined problem
- Synthesise design possibilities into a single, environmentally cognisant proposition
- Critically evaluate a proposal through real-world testing and conclude with recommendations for further development
- Evaluate the investigative process and outcomes through concise, coherent and well-structured documentation, design outcomes, and presentations
- Develop and present a professional quality project responding to real world design parameters of cost, production and market research/demand
