Project Management Practice and 3D Design Applications
Overview
This unit covers the management of a straightforward project or a section of a larger project. It focuses on the application of project management skills and the requirement to meet timelines, quality standards, budgetary limits and other requirements set for the project. The unit addresses the management of projects including the development of a project plan, administering and monitoring the project, finalizing the project and reviewing the project to identify lessons learnt for application to future projects.

Learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
- Describe project life cycle, key metrics including success factors and complete a project scope and planning document to a given individual/group project (S4, A2, A4)
- Apply and relate basic project management concepts to a given individual / group project (A2, A4, A6)
- Apply tools to manage and evaluate a project, including the Critical Path Method (CPM), project budgeting (costing) to a given individual/group project (K2, S4, A2, A4, A6)
- Complete individual/group project using technical software and hardware to create 3D CAD models, compile project documents, handover documents and write project reports (A2, A4, A6)
- Review individual / group project outcomes against the project scope and planning document and write a reflection document for the review outcomes (A2, A4, A6)

Hurdle
As the minimum requirements of assessment to pass a unit and meet all ULOs to a minimum standard, an undergraduate student must have achieved:
(i) an aggregate mark of 50% or more, and(ii) at least 40% in the final exam.Students who do not successfully achieve hurdle requirement (ii) will receive a maximum of 45% as the total mark for the unit.
Content
- Define Project: Students will produce scope documents and apply project management tools, such as Mind Maps, Gantt Chart, Work Breakdown Structure, Network Diagram using software tools.
- Develop Project Plan: Students will select a project, develop a detailed project plan, and write a Project Plan Document.
- Administer and Monitor Project: Students will organise the tools and software required for the project, execute and monitor project tasks using Gantt Chart and update the stakeholders. Students will use 3D CAD software and build 3D CAD models.
- Finalise Project: Students will write project reports which would include project details, details of project costing, and prepare/deliver project presentation.
- Review Project: Reflect at an individual level on project deliverables, level of project completion and lesson learnt.
