Overview
This unit develops pre-service teacher’s understandings of learning theories and practice in Arts education, specifically in dance, drama, music, media and visual arts. Pre-service teachers will become familiar with the skills necessary to implement an effective Arts program in the primary school environment and will be prepared to plan, teach, assess and report on student learning. Pre-service teachers will develop an appreciation of the impact Arts education can have on children, and consider contemporary ways to foster their creativity

Learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
- Advocate the importance of the creative learning areas of Arts (dance, drama, media, music and visual arts)
- Communicate key concepts and relevant national and/or state or territory curriculum content within the learning areas of the Arts (dance, drama, media, music and visual arts)
- Evaluate contemporary pedagogical approaches in teaching, learning and assessment of the Arts (dance, drama, media, music and visual arts) and including the use of ICT
- Plan and evaluate Arts (dance, drama, media, music and visual arts) learning experiences and resources
- Reflect upon their values and beliefs about creative arts education, in primary education settings including an appreciation of ethical, cultural and inclusivity considerations
