Overview

This unit will further enhance editing skills and develop a sophisticated understanding of the postproduction process. This will apply across all areas of specialisation including editing, sound design and colour grading, with an emphasis on defining appropriate workflows, compression and outputs of the Major Projects. Students will develop professional marketing strategies for the promotion and distribution of their Major Projects.

Learning outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

  • Apply advanced editing techniques and competency in working on digital post-production and specialised software in picture editing, sound design, colour grading and graphic applications
  • Evaluate the editor/ director relationship in the process of translating script to screen by participating in regular consultations on the edits and all stages of the post-production process of the project
  • Apply project management skills in the post-production and final output of major film-based projects for assessment, screenings, publication and distribution purposes
  • Liaise with appropriate industry practitioners, post-production facilities and film labs on a real world project
  • Review the post-production process in the documentation of post-workflows, final scripts, post-schedules and budgets, and all delivery items
  • Develop a professional marketing strategy and compile appropriate documentation and materials for relevant funding, investment, distribution and promotion of the major film-based projects

  • Demonstration of advanced editing software and creative editing techniques in the areas of scene structure, rhythm and pacing in working on the Major Projects
  • The editor/ director relationship, and the participation of regular consultations with the lecturer and production group on picture and sound editing, colour grading, title design and special effects
  • Liaising with industry practitioners, post-production facilities and film labs in post-producing the Major Projects
  • The development of professional marketing strategies and documentation for the distribution and promotion of the major film-based project
