Knowledge Management and Analytics
Overview
In this unit students learn about the contemporary organisation, organisational learning as a critical concept contributing to sustainable competitive advantage. Knowledge Management is an integral and pertinent concept within an organisational learning environment. This unit aims to develop and enhance students’ conceptual and practical understanding of the key aspects and the fundamental principles of Knowledge Management, particularly in the increasing use of analytics within a Knowledge Management environment.

Learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
- Apply coherent and advanced knowledge of the concepts of knowledge and knowledge management, as well as their roles and applications in the contemporary organisational context
- Analyse the role of big data and analytics in organisational knowledge management in relationship to decision making
- Apply problem solving, design and decision making methodologies to identify and provide innovative solutions to problems associated with organisational learning with intellectual independence
- Communicate effectively as a professional and function as an effective leader or member of a team

- The nature and origins of organisational knowledge, organisational learning, organisational memory, organisational capabilities and competences, and knowledge workers
- The nature of knowledge and its management within a contemporary organisation, including the processes of creation, capture, sharing, and application
- The strategy and business case for enhancing and improving the efficacy and effectiveness of Knowledge Management (KM) contained in a KM system
- The role of big data and analytics in knowledge management practices and strategy
- Cases of utilising big data in knowledge management systems and knowledge management initiatives
- Utilising big data results as organisational knowledge to support decision making
- Contemporary and emerging issues in knowledge management including: communities of practice, advanced taxonomies, big data analysis, cloud computing, Anything-as-a-Service (XaaS), and social network analysis
- Specific cases of knowledge management practices and applications from real-world organisational contexts
