Advanced Legal Research Project 1
Overview
This unit, together with Advanced Legal Research Project 2, provides students with a capstone supervised research experience. The unit gives students the opportunity to work closely with an academic with expertise in the student’s field of enquiry to identify a suitable topic for research and to develop a research plan. The unit will also expose students to various legal research methodologies with a view of developing a preliminary literature review. The research proposal developed forms the basis of the research report undertaken in Advance Legal Research Project 2.

Learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the legal issues relating to an area of the law by identifying a research problem
- Design a research proposal, including the development of research questions
- Assimilate scholarly material from a range of sources
- Effectively plan a research project

Content
Under the supervision of an academic member of staff the student will identify a research topic relevant to the chosen legal field and research and compile a research proposal.
