Overview

This unit of study aims to develop students' ability to design and build complex engineering systems, understand the systemic implication of design decisions, understand design challenges, and apply design theory with experience working on a real-world project. It will develop students' skills in using computer tools for data and information analysis and interpretation to produce industry relevant outcomes. Students will also work collaboratively in groups applying your academic knowledge to an industry project. Students will learn how to use computer aided technologies including Solidworks and ANSYS; as well as build their professional skills in decision making, presenting, visual communication, goal setting and time management and apply these while working on an industry project.

Learning outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

  • Develop design planning and risk engineering considering environmental, social, and economic impacts for ill-defined global engineering design challenges. (K1)
  • Use discipline specific trends, standards, and design theory to address ill-defined global engineering design challenges. (K3, K5, S2)
  • Use wide variety design methods and approaches to develop a key integrated engineering design solution. (K5, K6, S1, S3)
  • Develop communication, documentation and presentation skills using engineering knowledge and practices. (A2)
  • Demonstrate teamwork and manage projects by professional, ethical, and inclusive behaviour to further as an engineer. (A1, A3, A7, S4)
  • Confidently use emerging disciplinary technologies and develop computational CAE, AVR, 3D printing skills for the developed project. (K2, K4, K5, A4)
  • Use reflective practices to personal and professional development aligned with engineering design practices. (A5, A6)
